cancun aquaThe Cancun Aqua Live Resort ($410 – $610) is a deluxe 371 room, 36 suite all-inclusive spa. All rooms have an ocean view The Cancun Aqua is centrally located on the “Strip”, about 20 minutes from the Cancun airport, and perfect for shopping or daytrips to the Mayan ruins at Tulum and Chichen Itza, or bohemian, chic Playa del Carmen, etc. Unlike other all-inclusive resorts, at Aqua Cancun, you don’t wear a wristband, so you have to sign for everything. Formerly named Fiesta Americana, the cab drivers still refer to it as such.

Across the street at the new La Isla mall you’ll find Apple, Chilli’s, Hooters, Benetton, and Starbucks along with many other “American” brands. The Kukulcan Mall is just a few minutes walk away. A 5 min. cab ride will take you to the finest Cancun restaurants, and world class Cancun nightclubs. Most of the discos in Cancun are one price at the door $45/$50 and open bar.

Aqua Cancun rooms have their own scent machines to control the blissful aromatherapy that pervades the entire resort. Beds are comfy, and the balcony views of the ocean is a perfect setting for coffee in the morning. You can smoke on the balconies even though the hotel is smoke free. Upgrade to a suite upon arrival for two adjoining rooms and two full baths. One of the adjoining rooms is made up to look like a living room. These rooms are located in the center of the hotel, opposite the elevators and ice machines. The 5th floor VIP lounge is strictly for those with suites. This lounge has free-pouring booze and snacks, and also has a balcony overlooking the hotel zone and strip. It’s a great place to enjoy the “Vegas-like” lights of the Cancun Strip at night.

There is an internet café area called “B-on” located in the hotel. This is free to use for all guests so unless you need to VPN in for work or some other secure connection “B-on” can work fine for you. There is also a beauty salon in the hotel should you want this service.

cancun aquaAlthough not “Adults Only”, it promotes a “zen-like atmosphere, and “no spring-breakers”. However, the resort does not seem set up for children which creates a problem with some of the guests. There is nothing for kids to do – no kids’ club, arcade, separate pool area, etc,. It’s hard to have a romantic dinner with kids crying because they’ve been up too late, and youngsters in the hot tub tend to put a damper on a honeymoon. If you do come with kids, bring lots of nik-naks to keep them busy and entertained.

There are just not enough restaurants (only 3) to support the AI concept. Make reservations early for MB their award winning restaurant. You will often end up eating at Siete (or room service) if you want to eat at a respectable hour.

Siete is open for breakfast with a buffet or ala carte ordering. Cook to order eggs, omelettes, etc and also will make you fresh pancakes or waffles. This is the only restaurant for breakfast or you can order room service.

Azur is open for lunch and dinner is outside and fronts the beach so it has a casual feel. A nice feature is you can also order from the Azur menu for lunch at the pool or beach. At night, the wait staff carries flash lights to help you read the menus.

MB is open for dinner only. With a nice ambience, it is more formal but no dress code, so you can’t call it stuffy.

Aka Bar opens early in the day for drinks, and is the bar for a pre-dinner drink. It sits in the hallway area between the MB and Siete restaurants.

Egos Bar has a balcony that faces the pool and beach – a great bar to hang out in, with a DJ on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tips are added automatically.

The Cancun Aqua gym is well equipped with 6 ellipticals, 6 treadmills and 3 stair climbers. There are 10 Nautilus stations as well as free weights. Other rooms are for tai chi, yoga, Pilates, and callisthenics. There are people on staff in the gym to help with your workout if you wish. There are identical facilities for men and women and couples massages as well. Come early and enjoy the cold and warm Jacuzzi treatment massage. The whole 3 hour experience of pampering is $200 (including tip).
